After speaking with Donald Trump and several European leaders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he believes Russia is now “more inclined” to agree to a ceasefire. He made the remarks during his nightly address.

“We discussed what was said in Moscow [at the meeting between Putin and Witkoff]. It seems that Russia is now more inclined toward a ceasefire — pressure on them is working. But the main thing is to make sure they don’t deceive us in the details — not us, and not the United States,” Zelensky said.

On August 6, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Neither Putin nor Witkoff made any statements following the meeting.

Trump later described the talks as “highly productive,” saying they had made “great progress,” though he offered no further details.
