Svetlana Tikhanovskaya (Svitlana Tsikhanouskaya), the opposition candidate who took second place in yesterday’s presidential elections in Belarus, is challenging the results of the vote, reports RIA Novosti.

Tikhanovskaya has filed a complaint with the country’s Central Election Commission, demanding that the results of the vote be invalidated, and that the commission either hold a recount or a re-vote at several polling stations, TASS explains

This is a developing story.

According to the latest data from the Belarusian Central Election Commission, as reported by RIA Novosti, incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko (Alyaksandr Lukashenka) won 80.08 percent of the vote, while Tikhanovskaya won 10.09 percent.

Tikhanovskaya and her campaign refuse to recognize the election results. “We have seen the real protocols. We urge those who believe that their vote was stolen not to remain silent,” she said. The presidential elections in Belarus ended on August 9.
