In Moscow on Tuesday, February 2, a district court sentenced Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny to nearly three years in prison. The verdict sparked protests in the Russian capital, where law enforcement officers and internal troops had been preemptively deployed en masse. When protesters took to the streets, these security officers responded with violence and carried out hundreds of arrests. An informed source told the newswire Interfax that nearly 1,500 people were detained. Meduza shares photos of what took place on the streets of Moscow after the Navalny ruling.
